Selena

She was a performer, designer and a music pioneer. She was at once contemporary and traditional a Mexican-American singer who brought together the two realms of music in an unison way. And she brought excellent Tejano music to an affluent crowd. In the same way that most people grieve a celebrity who died too early, her passing was untimely and shattered a growing career. In the years since, her admirers are working even harder in an effort to not forget what she has achieved. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena caused a resurgence in the Latino community which can be thought of as similar to the responses to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular throughout Latino communities throughout North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect the lives of young as well as old. Selena might have been described by some as an Latina Madonna, but she's still a fantastic role model. Selena's off-stage family values and her participation in AIDS awareness efforts make her a good example.
